A water tank and a small flock of chickens are bringing food and water security to Felistar and her young family following severe drought in Kenya.
In 2023, the river below Felistar’s home dried up. It had long been the main source of water for her remote community. Felistar and other local women spent hours each day searching the dry riverbed for even a small amount of water.
During the drought, Anglican Overseas Aid worked with its partner, the Anglican Diocese of Mt Kenya West, to provide the food Felistar’s family needed to survive.
Felistar has since taken practical steps to prepare her household for future dry periods.
She installed a water tank on her property and began raising chickens, which require little water and provide both food and a source of income.
‘I am happy with what I am doing to prepare against drought. It means I can take care of my children and provide for them,’ Felistar says.
Thanks to AOA’s supporters, Felistar is creating greater security for her children and can look to the future with hope.
