Anglican Overseas Aid has been partnering with the development arm of the Anglican Church of Kenya, Mt Kenya West Diocese since 1996, when HIV AIDS reached pandemic levels in Kenya. Initiatives include improving access to health for women and children and addressing the links between poverty and violence against them. Much time has gone into training clergy and community leaders in the roles they can play to reduce gender-based violence and protect children from abuse, neglect, and child labour.
The Anglican Church Mt Kenya West Diocese also fosters the improvement of livelihoods through community development initiatives. In recent years, to combat the impacts of climate change, it has established community and school gardens and is helping farmers introduce new methods to improve sustainability and productivity.
