She has seen how knowledge can change lives. As Coordinator of the Abundant Life program, she supports work reaching 90 local areas through the Diocese of Nampula.

Muassite became a mother while still underage, a situation she links to the poverty her family was facing at the time. Now, she works to help other girls avoid early marriage and continue building their futures.

Through the Abundant Life program, families are learning about the importance of girls staying in school, women taking part in decision-making, and people seeking health care when they need it.

Women and girls are becoming more empowered. Girls are attending school. Women are taking on leadership roles. In savings groups, women are making decisions, giving advice and showing others what is possible.

‘Women are able,’ Muassite says, ‘but if opportunity isn’t given to them, they’re not going to show their abilities.’

This confidence matters for health, too.

Muassite says that when women are empowered, they can speak openly about HIV, encourage others to seek treatment from health centres, and help reduce fear and silence around illness.

One of her greatest joys is seeing the teaching make a difference.

‘When I see success from the activities done within the community, I am happy and encouraged to do more,’ she says.

As Muassite and local leaders continue this work, we give thanks for the ways God is bringing knowledge and courage to families in Mozambique
