We are delighted to be partnering with Five Talents in Myanmar.
Five Talents is a non-profit organisation based in the United States, working mostly with women and other marginalised people living in poverty, to build their capacity to budget and save, and to develop income-generating activities to improve their lives and the lives of their families.
Myanmar is a country that has been closed to the outside world for many years, largely due to its military dictatorship. The hardships in Myanmar have created thousands of refugees who are only now beginning to return home. In 2016, Five Talents began new work with returned refugees in the Anglican Diocese of Hpa-An.
Five Talents is working with the Mother’s Union in Hpa-An with support from Anglican Oversees Aid to reach two hundred refugees. Many of these returned refugees have had little access to education, so programs begin with basic literacy and financial training. Participants then learn business skills and join community savings groups.
