COVID-19 appeal for Myanmar

While much of Australia has been experiencing another lockdown as a result of the effects of COVID-19, the situation to the north of Australia, in Myanmar, is worse.

In short, the COVID situation in Myanmar is dire, with many people dying, including within the churches there. Oxygen is in critically short supply.

Anglican Overseas Aid is launching an urgent appeal to help the people of Myanmar cope with this crisis. We invite you to please consider donating.

Supplies of oxygen will be a major focus of the appeal. Money donated will be dispersed through Anglican Board of Mission.

The Church in Myanmar has organised a COVID-19 response team composed of medical doctors, staff and volunteers. They are divided up into teams, including a communications team, phone/online consultants and a logistics team.

The resources required are for medicines (mild and moderate cases) as well as basic medical equipment, including oximeters, thermometers, and blood pressure and glucose meters. There are less than five oxygen tanks at the moment, which are being transported from place to place in Yangon to whoever needs them, as well as basic medicines to alleviate physical pain. As well as oxygen cylinders, full Personal Protective Equipment sets and meals for volunteers will be made available.

The appeal will primarily help church members, but also includes wider community members. The efforts are expected to reach approximately 5,000 families, specifically reinforcing COVID-19 prevention messages.

Your continuing support to ease this suffering will help us reach thousands of people.
