Our CEO Rev Dr Bob Mitchell discusses the Australian bushfires in the global climate context
When the clock ticked over into the new decade, Australia was already facing the challenge of out-of-control bushfires, affecting large areas across the country.
As people lamented the tragedy, questions were asked, and attention turned to the impact that climate change has had on the Australian landscape. Although the symptoms might look different, climate change is proving to have far-reaching consequences across the world. Our work in emergencies and humanitarian aid, as well as with partners across the Pacific, Africa, Middle East and South East Asia, give us direct insight into this.
In an article posted on the World Council of Churches website Bob discusses how the church is responding to climate-related disasters locally as well as internationally, looks at our work in the area, and asks us to rally in prayer for those impacted here and abroad.
